ORNISCOPE Project
ORNISCOPE is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship research project that explores how birds, in terms of their ecological functions, respond to different environments they live in. Using a mix of field observations, modern tracking technologies, and data analysis, the project examines how factors such as habitat structure, loss and disturbance, and human activity influence bird behaviour and, consequently, their effectiveness as biological agents in pest suppression. The goal is to better understand what birds can tell us about the health of our ecosystems and how we can effectively manage forests and agricultural land to protect biodiversity and ecosystem functioning through an edge-computing approach.
This blog shares the journey behind the science: from ideas and methods to fieldwork stories and early findings, all explained in clear, accessible language for non-specialists and enthusiasts alike. Here you will also find reflections on life as an MSCA fellow and how this European programme supports curiosity-driven research that benefits both nature and society.
